Upside Down Ponytail Updo | Hairstyles for the Holidays – 2023
Today I’m going to show you the updo with a reverse ponytail! You may not have many occasions that call for a “fancy” hairstyle, but you should definitely be ready when the time comes. Whether it’s for prom, a wedding, a holiday party, or just because you feel like it, try this inverted ponytail updo that anyone can pull off.
This hairstyle looks incredibly complex, but it’s actually pretty easy to create! Depending on how you style it, how much hair you leave out on the face, and how smooth/puffy you leave the top of the hair, you can definitely dress this look up or down! We started by spritzing on dry shampoo to lift the roots. Don’t worry about being TOO clean — dirty hair is actually better for updos.
Items needed: Hair ties (texture powder, hairspray, dry shampoo if desired)
Time requirement: 15-20 minutes

Separate the hair into 3 equal sections. Pull the center section out of the way.

Finger comb the right section of hair into a small elastic band. Smooth out flyaways with Hairitage’s Wiggle Room Flexible Hold Hairspray. Loosen to prevent hair from being combed back.

Repeat step 2 in the left pane. Use Hairitage’s Magic Dust Texturizing Hair Powder when you need more hold/volume in your hair.

Pull back the middle section of hair and let the sides cover the visible parting lines. Use Hairitage’s Lazy Day Light Dry Shampoo to keep oils at bay and add manageability to the hair. Secure with a small rubber band.

In the right section, add another small elastic a few inches below the first elastic.

Make a hole in the hair between the 2 elastics and twist the ponytail OVER the hole you created. The hair creates a little twist – use the texturizing powder to fluff it up properly. Repeat the right section 3 more times.

Repeat step 6 for each section of hair (how many bubble twists you have in each section depends on the length of your hair).

Move the right section of hair over the middle and left sections and tuck it underneath. Secure with bobby pins.

Move the left section of hair over the middle and right sections, tuck under and secure with bobby pins.

Fold the middle section back and forth and tuck it under the other 2 secured sections. Place as you like and secure with bobby pins.

Add accessories, hairspray and tweak as needed!
